Exploring the Art of christie owen in “Outsider” at 1515 Lincoln gallery
This fall, Outsider, a solo exhibition by Oklahoma-based artist Christie Owen, graces the walls of 1515 Lincoln Gallery. Running from October 24 through November 30, 2024, this collection of new works offers an immersive dive into nature-inspired abstraction. With a stunning palette of earthy tones—deep blues, lush greens, warm neutrals, and rich red earth—Owen pulls the essence of the outdoors into her art, enhancing each piece with textural and sculptural elements. These works exude life, blending organic, flowing forms with bold, geometric contrasts. Inspired by landscapes and the shifting seasons, from autumnal woods to snowy peaks and shimmering waters, Outsider invites viewers to experience nature from an entirely fresh perspective.
Owen’s mastery of abstraction feels like visual poetry. Her works don’t just capture nature’s beauty; they embody its energy. Blues reminiscent of early morning skies evolve into intricate, meditative patterns, while greens drawn from plant life transform into new, transcendent forms. The paintings evoke a sense of connection to nature, pulling viewers into a world where land, sky, and imagination intertwine.
One of the defining elements of Outsider is its deep connection to the Outsider art movement, which has long shaped Owen’s artistic philosophy. This influence encourages her to break free from traditional contemporary art norms, allowing her to create works that are raw, deeply personal, and emotionally resonant. Each painting is a reflection of her creative evolution, offering a rare and honest glimpse into her introspective world as an artist.
Christie Owen: Outsider opens to the public on Thursday, October 24, with an opening reception from 6–8 pm at the gallery. Join us for Christie’s Artist Talk on Saturday, October 26, from 1–2 pm. Whether you’re drawn to the serenity of nature or intrigued by the untamed creative spirit of the Outsider art movement, this exhibition will leave a lasting impression.
