matt goad: gentrifyng mars

Imposter Syndrome by Matt Goad

This September 1515 Lincoln Gallery proudly presents Gentrifying Mars a solo exhibition by acclaimed artist matt goad. the exhibition features goad’s latest works, which delve into otherworldly landscapes imbued with profound personal significance. through his art, goad transports viewers to exotic and geometric worlds, revealing deeper truths that resonate uniquely with each individual.

Reflecting on his show Goad states, “The rocket ship has been thrown off course and crash-landed on a desolate expanse of red dirt. Gentrifying Mars explores themes of loneliness, longing, self-reliance, personal discovery, and healing. Departing from the bright, flat colors of my previous work, this series ventures into darker territories, employing more subdued palettes and rough textures through new mixed media techniques.”

Using familiar iconography, such as astronaut-like characters inhabiting strange, desolate worlds and performing varied motions, Goad connects us to our shared humanity. His captivating paintings offer a glimpse into the mind of an artist whose work deeply reflects his journey. Throughout this series, we see echoes of his past work, but with this latest collection, he transports us to new realms.

Birth of Deimos by Matt Goad

Oklahoma artist Matt Goad began his art career while working as a graphic designer and illustrator in the mid-1990s. Woodblock printing and its hard-edged graphic aesthetic helped inform his modern style, which he would take into the realm of paintings in the 2000s. Passionate about color, composition, and storytelling, his geometric approach pulls viewers through a compositional narrative. His work is easily accessible to the public and enjoyed by many - young, old, and across cultural identities. Matt’s work is included in many private and public collections around the world, and he’s been featured in numerous art and design publications, websites, and documentary productions, including Print, Communication Arts, OETA’s Gallery America, and Voksee’s Good to Know, among others. He is also known for his graphic public mosaic works found in Oklahoma City and Nashville airports.
