ABOUT MARY B. GRAY
Mary B. Gray is a poet grounded in the rich rhythms of Oklahoma, weaving compelling stories of identity, resilience, and connection. Her award-winning debut collection, Who Do You Think You Are?, honored with the 2023 Oklahoma Book Award in Poetry, blends heart and history to leave a lasting impression on readers. With an MFA in Creative Writing from Oklahoma City University, Mary has brought her craft to life through workshops and readings at events across Oklahoma. Currently, she is at work on her second collection, A Black Queen in the Balkans. The poems investigate the layered, often dissonant experience of travel, extending theories of “sense of place” into the realm of the temporary. True to her signature style of historical and dramatic monologue, the collection weaves in resonant echoes of the past, giving voice to the layers of history embedded within the landscape and the complex negotiation of a contemporary Black identity within fleeting, unfamiliar spaces. Driven by her belief in the transformative power of language and poetry, and the conviction that everyone holds poetry within, she cultivates spaces where voices are valued, words resonate, and verses vibrate. Don’t miss your chance to purchase one of Mary’s signed poetry books at the event.
