ARTIST INSIGHTS
How are your background and life experiences connected to your art?
My Iranian heritage and relocation to the U.S. in 2012 deeply inform my work. The blend of Eastern simplicity and Western warmth shapes my Japandi-inspired aesthetic, while my experiences navigating cultural transitions fuel my exploration of imperfection and serenity. My background in graphic design and creative direction adds technical precision, allowing me to craft compositions that resonate universally.
Who are some of your biggest artistic influences?
I draw inspiration from the minimalist elegance of Japanese design, the functional warmth of Scandinavian aesthetics, and the emotive depth of Renaissance painters like Caravaggio and Botticelli.
Contemporary abstract artists like Agnes Martin and Mark Rothko also influence my focus on emotional resonance and simplicity.
How have you developed your artist career?
My career began with a graphic design degree in Tehran, followed by roles in advertising and marketing, where I honed my creative vision. After moving to the U.S., I balanced customer-facing roles while exhibiting in galleries. Founding Coconut Art Company in 2024 marked a pivotal step, allowing me to focus on bespoke art, home staging, and exhibitions, with ongoing shows in Oklahoma.
What does your artistic work intend to communicate to its audience?
My work communicates the beauty of imperfection, inviting viewers to find serenity in the unfinished. It offers a minimalist sanctuary where chaos and calm coexist, encouraging reflection and emotional connection through universal human stories.
Does your work comment on any current social or political issues?
While my work primarily explores universal themes of imperfection and serenity, it subtly reflects the cultural duality of my Iranian-American identity, fostering dialogue about belonging and resilience in a globalised world.
Do you have a particular story that stands out from your career as an artist?
A standout moment was my 2016 solo exhibition at Picasso Café in Oklahoma City. Preparing the show while balancing a new life in the U.S. was challenging, but seeing diverse audiences connect with my abstract works—finding their own stories in the imperfections—was profoundly rewarding.
What is one thing you would like your audience to know about you?
I want my audience to know that my art is a celebration of imperfection, inviting them to embrace their own unique stories within the calm of minimalist design.
Which current art world trends are you following?
I follow trends in Japandi design, sustainable art practices, and the rise of immersive digital exhibitions. I’m particularly interested in how minimalism continues to evolve in response to global demands for simplicity and mindfulness.
Why have you chosen to sell your work in the 1515 Lincoln Gallery?
I chose 1515 Lincoln Gallery for its commitment to showcasing diverse, innovative artists and its reputation for fostering meaningful connections between artists and audiences, aligning with my goal of creating impactful, accessible art.
What do you believe makes 1515 Lincoln Gallery distinct from other galleries?
1515 Lincoln Gallery stands out for its curated approach, emphasising authenticity and diversity while creating a welcoming space for artists to share their stories and connect with a broad audience.
