This October, 1515 Lincoln Gallery proudly presents Outsider, a solo exhibition by artist Christie Owen. The exhibition features a captivating collection of new works that push artistic boundaries by fusing past inspirations into fresh and exciting expressions. Earthy tones—lush greens, deep blues, red earth, and warm neutrals—bring the outdoors inside, enriched by textural and sculptural elements. Influenced by both outsider art and personal experiences, these pieces blend flowing, organic forms with unexpected geometric twists. Inspired by seasonal changes and landscapes, from autumn oranges to snowy vistas, oceans, and lakes, this body of work invites viewers to explore familiar elements through a dynamic, fresh perspective. Playful interactions of light, shadow, and texture offer an entirely new visual experience.
Owen's work brims with a sense of visual poetry, reminding us of the powerful impact abstraction can evoke. Through her unique lens, she captures the profound emotions experienced in nature. Blues reminiscent of morning skies evolve into expansive, repetitive patterns, while greens drawn from plant life unfurl into new, transcendent forms. The paintings embody the essence of nature, connecting viewers to a time when we were deeply tied to the land and sky.
Her engagement with the Outsider art movement has heavily influenced this series, encouraging her to explore narratives that exist outside the boundaries of traditional contemporary art. The compositions open themselves to the viewer with raw honesty, reflecting the deeply personal and introspective journey of an artist in her prime. Outsider will open to the public on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 1515 Lincoln Gallery, with an opening reception from 6-8 pm. The artist will be present at the event. Additionally, Christie Owen will host an Artist Talk on Saturday, October 26, from 1-2 pm at the gallery. Both events are free and open to the public. About Christie Owen
A native New Yorker, Christie Owen has lived in Oklahoma since 1997. Her 2D and 3D works are included in local and national museums, galleries, public venues, private collections, and retail locations. Her most recent solo exhibition, "Surroundings" was at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. Her work is represented by Lilac Gallery in Manhattan, New York, and by 1515 Lincoln Gallery in Oklahoma. Her paintings have been featured on both the TV series “Better Call Saul” and the film “Hosea.” She continuously exhibits her work around the world and is also a highly sought-after commission artist. Christie earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communication Design from State University of New York College at Buffalo.
